Surveying and Geo-informatics
DURATION: 2 YEARS
NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND)
The National Diploma Programme in Surveying and Geo-informatics are aimed at producing graduands that can demonstrate sound understanding of the methods and instruments used in Geo-informatics and who are capable of performing functions:
(i) Applying the basic principles of Surveying and methods in Surveying and Geo-informatics.
(ii) Compiling Maps at various scales from imageries.
(iii) Understanding database creation and management.
(iv) Interpreting spatial measurements from various sources
(v) Operating Surveying and Geo-informatics instruments
(vi) Carrying out Cadastral Survey to define boundaries of land.
1.1.1 Entry requirements:
WAEC, GCE [O/L],WASSCE, NECO, NABTEB or its equivalent with credits in English language, Mathematics, Physics and two subjects from: Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography, Economics/Commerce, Technical Drawing/Fine Arts, Biology/Agricultural Science. Candidates must pass UTME in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and any other subject from the above list and Post UTME examination.
1.2 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND)
The Higher National Diploma programme in Surveying and Geo-informatics is aimed at producing graduands with a good mastery of the methods and instrumentation used in Geo-informatics. On completion of this programme, the student should be able to:
(i) Operate various geo-informatics instruments
(ii) Use land administration procedures in various cadastral system.
(iii) Carryout engineering surveys for physical developments such as roads, railways, dams, pipelines, large industrial sites, utilities etc.
(iv) Carryout geodetic and topographical surveys for controlling all survey works and for geo-informatics reduction
(v) To acquire spatial data using photogrammetry and remote sensing techniques
(vi) Carryout cartographic process for geo-informatics reduction
(vii) Carryout Hydrographic survey
(viii) Apply the basic principles of management in survey in appropriate level, management and supervisory problems related to geo-informatics environment
(ix) Apply geo-informatics technology in environmental monitoring and protection
(x) Manipulate a geographic information system for geo-information production
1.2.1 Entry requirements:
Candidates must possess National Diploma in Surveying and Geo-Informatics (or Land Surveying) at minimum of lower credit and evidence of one year post National Diploma (ND) industrial attachment experience. In addition, candidates must have requisite entry qualification for the ND programme. Candidates with ordinary pass at ND level must have at least two (2) years post ND experience.
Programme Duration: Four semesters or Two (2) years
